Dr. Sarmast joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at Cayuga Medical Center as an attending physician in 2008. He earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York City, where he was named to the President’s Academic List. He went on to earn his doctor of medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where he was recognized with commendation from the Committee on Academic Promotions and received honorable mention from Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Sarmast completed his residency in family practice at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. He did research on cardiac arrhythmia while at SUNY Upstate and has coauthored three articles on the topic. Dr. Sarmast speaks Farsi. He is seeing urgent-care patients on a walk-in basis at the Convenient Care Centers in Ithaca and Cortland.
