Accent Modification Program

If your individual speech patterns limit your ability to express yourself in English despite a strong grasp or mastery of the language, then the Compton P-ESL program can help you achieve clear, effective communication. The program provides a personal analysis of your speech patterns and identifies areas for concentration. Through classroom attendance and diligent outside practice, it is possible to achieve a greater than 50% change in your accent. With an emphasis on pronunciation and voice projection for conversation and presentations, the program can be an effective tool in improving self confidence and speech clarity on the job or at school. The program length depends on your individual analysis. We offer 7 and 13 week programs. Our speech-language instructors are American Speech-Language and Hearing Association certified, NYS licensed, and trained in the Compton P-ESL method. Please call Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca Speech-Language Pathology for more information: (607) 274-4504.

Sleep Lab

More than 100 different sleep disorders have been identified, including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep walking, night terrors, and restless leg syndrome. Many of these disorders, once diagnosed, can be readily treated. In the Sleep Disorders Lab, patients who have been referred by their primary care physician can be observed in a controlled environment while they sleep. Sleep technicians use special monitoring and recording equipment to gather information on brain activity, respiration and heart rate, oxygen saturation, muscle tone and limb movement, and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This information, along with the person's symptoms, helps physicians accurately diagnose and treat the disorder.

Vascular Lab

Cayuga Medical Center offers diagnosis and treatment for carotid artery disease, which is the leading cause of stroke. This disease indicates the presence of atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries," which is a narrowing of the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the body's tissues and organs. New procedures such as vascular graft can restore blood flow and reduce the risk of stroke. Vascular lab testing employs color flow echo doppler technology, which is completely painless. The vascular lab is located at the medical center.
