Cayuga Medical Center
Laboratories offer a level of service comparable to much larger facilities,
producing test results for more than a million lab tests each year. Ours is a
full-service laboratory providing testing in all the major areas of clinical
laboratory including chemistry, special chemistry, cytology, microbiology,
pathology, urinalysis, hematology, coagulation, and blood banking.
Our Laboratories are under
the direction of Daniel Sudilovsky, MD, chairman of the Department of Pathology
at Cayuga Medical Center. He came to Cayuga Medical Center from the University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was director of Cytology at the Hillman
Cancer Center. Dr. Sudilovsky does both clinical work and research and is
widely published.
Mayo Medical Laboratories Affiliation
Cayuga Medical Center
Laboratories are affiliated with Mayo Medical Laboratories in Rochester,
Minnesota. Named by US News and World Report to the 2007 Top Ten Medical
Centers Honor Roll, the Mayo Clinic serves as the official reference laboratory
for Cayuga Medical Center. In this role, Mayo Medical Laboratories performs
tests that are done infrequently and tests for rare conditions that require
special expertise and equipment. Genetic testing for certain familial cancers,
inherited metabolic diseases, and bleeding disorders are among the types of
tests for which Cayuga Medical Center uses a reference laboratory.
The Mayo Clinic is a
highly regarded academic center that offers reference laboratory services.
Unlike commercial labs, which are profit driven, the Mayo Clinic has a
distinctly different mission: they assist their affiliated labs to grow and to
improve their own expertise. Because Mayo has an academic mission, they are a
very valuable resource. The result is that the laboratories at Cayuga Medical
Center provide a level of care that is equal to or better than any medical
center in the region.
