Ithaca, NY -  Amit K. Singh, MD, FACC, FASNC a long time cardiologist in Tompkins County community, has been named to the top post of Medical Director of the Cayuga Heart Institute.

Dr. Singh joined the Cayuga Medical Center medical staff and Ithaca Cardiology Associates (now Ithaca Cardiology of CMA) in 2003. In his new role, Dr. Singh leads a host of clinical initiatives and endeavors, including clinical coordination of adult cardiac surgery, echocardiography, electrophysiologic interventional cardiac services including pacemakers and defibrillators, diagnostic and therapeutic interventional cardiology, stress testing and cardiac imaging. In addition, he is responsible for integrating the clinical activities of the departments that provide these services. The Cayuga Heart Institute strives to provide cardiovascular care that is patient-focused, safe, compassionate, comprehensive and coordinated.

Under Dr. Singh's leadership, Cayuga Medical Center was certified by the Society of Chest Pain Centers in 2009 to be an accredited chest pain center.  Cayuga Medical Center is one of only ten hospitals in all of New York State to achieve such prestigious and highly sought after national accreditation.  The hospital uses the chest pain center to define the protocol and steps for patient care.  All patients at Cayuga Medical Center have access to the chest pain center.
