March 1, 2011 (Ithaca, NY) - Mark Jackson, PT, DPT, MPS, OCS with Cayuga Medical
Center’s Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine program at Island Health Center, recently
passed the Orthopaedic Certified Specialist exam. He was recently recognized as
a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedics on February 9, 2011 at
the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Section Meeting in New
Orleans, Louisiana. To earn board certification, candidates must submit
evidence of required clinical practice in Orthopaedics and complete a rigorous
written examination.
Jackson graduated Summa Cum
Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and a Master of
Professional Studies with Distinction, with a major in Physical Therapy, and
Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Summa Cum Laude, from Upstate Medical University
in Syracuse, NY. He joined Cayuga Medical
Center three years ago. He provides care to people of all ages and has been in
practice for 12 years. His specialties include: Orthopaedics (shoulder, spine, knee) and balance &
vestibular (inner ear) rehabilitation.
He is currently a
faculty member in the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program at Cayuga
Medical Center. Dr. Jackson is also one of the clinical instructors for physical
therapy students who have their clinical rotations at Cayuga Medical
Center. He is an active Member of
the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA - since
1996), and a past Physical Therapist Delegate at the New York State Physical
Therapy Association’s (NYPTA) Delegate Assembly. His awards include: the
Mary McMillan Scholarship Award (PT Professional Education Program Level), the
National Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Award, and the State University of New York
Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
