CMC Physical Therapy Program is recognized as the region’s leader in physical therapy and sports medicine.

First in New York State to be Credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association

The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program at Cayuga Medical Center has become the first clinical residency for orthopedic physical therapists to be credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in New York State. The Physical Therapy Department at Cayuga Medical Center is recognized as the region’s leader in physical therapy and sports medicine.  The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program was developed in collaboration with Physical Therapy Department at Ithaca College.  The residency program is one of only 34 APTA-credentialed orthopedic residencies in the United States.

The 12-month residency program consists of 15 didactic courses, clinical mentorship, physician observation, and participation in clinical research.   Residents are involved in teaching at Ithaca College and serve as clinical instructors for physical therapy students interning at Cayuga Medical Center.  The goals of the program are to prepare residents to become specialists with advanced training, contribute to the profession through scholarly activity and, to become a mentor/teacher to students and other professionals.

Cayuga Medical Center is a 204-bed, state-of-the art regional medical center and is affiliated with many prestigious health care organizations including Cornell University’s Weill Medical College in New York City, Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY,  the Rochester Heart Institute at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY, and Mayo Medical Laboratories.
