May 19, 2010 -For the fourth time in a row, Cayuga Medical Center's Patient Medical Rehabilitation Unit (PMRU) has been awarded the 2010 Top Performer Award by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation. This recent recognition places Cayuga Medical Centers' PMRU in the top one percent of rehab units nationwide.
The Top Performer Award by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation is a ratings database that evaluates providers by the severity of their patients' conditions and how well those patients recover. Cayuga Medical Center's PMRU was evaluated against 800 other facilities and ranked above the 90th percentile of qualifying hospitals.
Cayuga Medical Center's PMRU care team creates an individualized therapy program to meet each patient's needs promoting health, independence and the most active lifestyle achievable. Their rating was determined by evaluating patient data that is reflective of each patient's level of performance in completing 18 specific tasks from admission to discharge. In short, this achievement is indicative of the ongoing improvements that the patients from the unit experience. Additionally, this rating is reflective of the efficiency of the patients' length of stay and their ability to return to a community setting.
Medical Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Dr. Andrew Morpurgo says he is gratified by the award. "Earning this recognition four years in a row really shows our staff's commitment, and acknowledges all the hard work the whole rehab team does. Being placed in the top one percent of rehab units nationwide is quite an acknowledgment. The patient is always at the center of the goals we set, and we all work hard to help the patient do the work to meet these goals avidly"
