The following describes the procedures for admission to the medical center; and list policies and procedures upon admission or while receiving outpatient services. You will also find a brief set of guidelines for billing, insurance and patients' rights.

Admissions

The Admissions Department is where all patients are registered for both inpatient and outpatient services. After pre-admission testing is ordered by the primary care physician for inpatient admission, you need only stop by the admission department. Express check-in is offered for outpatient services. Patients can call ahead 24 to 48 hours, which allows us to verify pertinent information. When you then arrive for outpatient services, you will be directed immediately to the department providing the service.

Billing

Ten days to two weeks after your discharge, Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca will directly bill your insurance company. You will receive a hospital bill for any unpaid balance, after your insurance pays the hospital. If you wish to receive an itemized bill, you may request one by calling the billing office at 274-4400. You will receive separate billing statements from your physician and other doctors that he or she consulted with, including emergency room physicians, cardiologists, radiologists or other specialists.

If you have any questions about your bill, please call 274-4400 or ask to see a patient billing counselor during your stay.
